There are many kinds of bags, as you may know. It's obvious. So it's important to pick the right design, fabric, details, etc. for the bag's "destiny".
There is:
Everyday bag – which can be a shopping bag, tote bag, messenger bag, backpack, etc.
Evening bag – purse, wristlet (can be a general purpose bag too)
… There is clutch, diaper bag, laptop…
There are bags that can be right for many places, many purposes. That's obvious. So let's talk about how to fit the right details to the bag you want to make.
Let's start with everyday bags. Start with an easy one: fabric and color. Yes, it's important too. Just like in clothes, you may want to avoid the dark colors, and sparkles or silk fabric and such. Use day colors. The fabrics role with clothing, works with bags as well. You d
on't want the everyday bag to look too fancy.
What do we do use?
Bright colors, patterns, prints, fun stuff that will help our good mood. For all I care, you can use fake fur, if that is what fun looks like to you. The best fabrics to use would be cotton, canvas, and such… canvas is good for everyday, why? Because it's a strong fabric. Most people carry many things in their bag during the day. More stuff than the night time. So they will need a strong fabric to carry all that stuff.
The other thing you need to consider for an everyday bag, is the functions. Again, there are many things in the everyday bag, so consider helping some with it, by using pockets. Everyday bag is sometimes for a long day, which means that it might be more comfy to carry the bag across the chest. Meaning, it would be good to use an adjustable strap.
Think what fits into the everyday bag: cellphone, keys, books, glasses, etc. then think how you will make it more functional.
Another functional thing to consider is the closure. What will fit best to this or that kind of bag (soon I will expend on closure types).
Now the later in day bags. This is your chance to show elegant creativity as opp
osed your functional creativity. Evening bags demand less – in the size, in pockets area, in the way you hold them (lots of them don't even have straps, but there's still room for a small handle in the side). Most evening bags are held in hand. And there are purses that have a long elegant diamond strap.
Here the fabrics can vary. The fabrics you couldn't use on everyday bags, you will use on evening bags. I'm not saying "don't use this or that fabric from the everyday bag on the evening bag!" I'm saying "use it right"! You can find a way to create an evening bag that is both simple and elegant.
Evening bags are always smaller. But they should be big enough to fit the stuff that people take out with them. Find a comfortable way to hold the evening bag (clutch – held only by hand? Wristlet – the name says it all).
The colors don't have to be dark, of course. They should be happy and reflect your personality.
It's important to add, that not every everyday bag and every evening bag has to follow these roles. And there are many sub-"roles" for every kind (of) bag (that I mentioned above). Different roles for each kind of bag. Of course in laptop bag there will be different roles. Same with each and every bag. Those are just things you have to consider when making a specific kind of bag.
But don't forget there are bags that have no purpose, or have a general purpose. Play it, and use the game right!
God, I have so many things to write in every post, but I have to show mercy on you and make it shorter! I tend to babble...
